4 Papers, Mark Schemes and Answers for A Level Economics A Theme 3: Business Behaviour and the Labour Market (3 'interim' and 1 'end of theme')
“As a resource to assess both knowledge development and examination skills, these papers are fantastic. They allow pupils to gain a true insight into the nature of the economics papers and has allowed me to have meaningful conversations about examination technique from a much earlier stage in the course. The mark schemes and model answers make for a package which represents great value for money.”
Mark Seccombe, Pangbourne College, 3rd November 2016
These papers have been written by a senior examiner for multiple examination boards and experienced teacher of AS and A Level Economics.
The papers have been constructed to provide full coverage of Edexcel A Level Economics A Theme 3: Business Behaviour and the Labour Market, AND to enable students to be formally tested throughout their study of the theme, not just upon completion.
The question papers, mark schemes and detailed example model answers included in this resource will, ultimately:
· minimise the need for you to devise appropriate questions to test your students’ knowledge and understanding at various points throughout their Economics course.
· enable you to test students’ regularly (every 8 to 10 weeks) in a formal examination setting.
· build students’ confidence in sitting A Level Economics exams.
· identify any gaps in your students’ knowledge and understanding that need to be re-visited.
· familiarise your students with the skills examiners look for and how to secure high grades.
There are 3 ‘interim’ papers which test students at various points as they progress through the theme, and 1 ‘end of theme’ paper which tests students on elements of the whole theme.
The style and format of each paper is based on the sample assessment material produced by Edexcel for A Level Economics A Paper 1 and Paper 2 (but the questions just relate to one theme as opposed to a mixture of two themes).
Each question paper contains 3 sections: Section A, B and C. Students answer all questions from Section A and Section B, and one from Section C. Section A consists of a range of multiple-choice and short-answer questions. Section B consists of one data response question broken down into a number of parts. Section C consists of a choice of extended open-response questions, with students selecting one from a choice of two. Duration is 2 hours, and 100 marks are available.
The questions included in each paper ensure students gain exam practice across Edexcel's 4 A Level assessment objectives and marks are weighted according to Edexcel’s requirements at A Level: 22-24% test students’ knowledge and understanding (A01); 22-24% test students’ ability to apply knowledge and understanding (A02); 26-28% test students ability to analyse (A03) and 26-28% test students ability to evaluate (A04).
The question papers contain appropriate spacing for students to write their answers.
In the mark schemes and answers provided, in order to make it easy to follow answers through to their completion and to mark students work, all 4 assessment objectives have been cited one after the other ie evaluation has been cited immediately after knowledge, application and analysis, rather than being cited separately.
For questions worth 10 or more marks (where ‘Level Descriptors’ are used to mark students’ answers), detailed example model answers have been provided in paragraph form, rather than a list of relevant points anticipated to be raised in the answer.
Answers to questions worth 10 or more marks, have also been annotated to show where assessment objectives have been met (ie knowledge, application, analysis and evaluation).
