An organisation whose purpose falls under one of the following four definitions recognised in law as charitable: the relief of poverty, the advancement of education, the advancement of religion, or other purposes beneficial to the community. It is interesting to note that a charity cannot be set up for the benefit of one individual. It must be for the benefit of several members of the public. Charities are subject to numerous other regulations and are regulated by the Charity Commission.
