The act of bringing together the parties in a dispute and helping them to reach a mutually agreeable solution. The conciliator listens to the views of both sides, and encourages both sides to look for common ground and reconcile their differences. Conciliators have no power to impose, or even recommend settlements. They simply try to enable the parties in dispute to reach their own agreement.
