Involves providing workers with the opportunity to air their views on work related matters. It may take many forms including representation through trade union officials and the process of collective bargaining, works councils who meet regularly, or other ad hoc groups. Workers have a statutory right to be accompanied by a fellow worker or a trade union official when they are required to attend disciplinary and grievance hearings. This right can, and often is, voluntarily extended to representation over other work related issues, by agreements between the employer and employees or their trade union(s).
