Attempts to measure consumer behaviour ie how, what, when and why people buy. It is the collection of quantifiable data that is, generally, easy to collate and analyse statistically. It is, therefore, generally less expensive than qualitative research. However, because it is usually limited to pre-set questions where answers are restricted to specified categories it might not obtain key information such as subjective personal preferences, ie how someone feels about the product / service.
