A place where a range of assessment methods are used to assess the capabilities of applicants for a particular post relative to the selection criteria for the post, in order to determine their suitability, and help make appropriate selection decisions. They will typically involve both oral, written and, where appropriate, physical tasks, including psychometric tests, interviews, simulations of situations that might occur within the job, work-sample tests eg in-tray exercises, presentations, and group exercises / discussions.
