Where a person is employed for a short period of time, usually under a year. They may be directly employed by the employer or employed by an agency. They may involve fixed term contracts. This is where the term of employment is for a set period of time which is agreed in advance. Such agreements, more often than not, do not require notice to be given by either party. Workers not on fixed term contracts, have the same rights to notice as permanent employees. To qualify for other employment rights (excluding equal opportunities), such as sick pay, holiday pay, etc temporary workers need to have worked for a minimum period of continuous employment with their employer.
