This resource consists of a practice paper and detailed mark scheme / answers, which tests various aspects of the Edexcel A Level specification (see below) in relation to the context that students were advised to research in Edexcel’s ‘Pre-release Material’ for the June 2017 Paper 3 exam. This context concerned the Health and Fitness Industry, and the private businesses operating in this market in the UK and / or internationally.
It includes stimulus material on the following: The importance of innovation; The rise of budget providers; Type and size (in terms of number of sites) of companies / brands; Forecasts for UK interest rates and the value of pound sterling; Organic expansion; Decentralised management / organisational structures; Income statement and Balance sheet information.
It includes questions and detailed answers on the following: Implications for businesses of ‘a constant need to invest in new technologies’; Consequence for existing providers of the rise of budget providers; Impact of a change in business size (number of sites); Impact of a rise in UK interest rates; Reasons behind overseas expansion; Organic business growth versus takeovers; Impact of a policy of decentralisation; Ratio analysis and decisions over continued expansion.
The practice paper and mark scheme (level descriptors) are written in the same style and format as the sample assessment material (SAM) produced by Edexcel for this particular exam.
The question paper includes space for students to write down their answers.
Answers are provided in paragraph form, rather than a list of relevant points anticipated to be raised in the answer.
Answers typically contain a range of examples of comments which can earn high marks in relation to the question set.
